LDF BOOT camp funds abused: Mofomobe

Basotho National Party leader, MachesetsaMofomobe, has called for an independent investigation into allegations of abuse and financial mismanagement at the Lesotho Defence Force (LDF) BOOT Camp programme.

In a letter dated December 27 addressed to Prime Minister Sam Matekane, Mofomobeexpressed concern that the alleged incidents may indicate a broader pattern of abuse, requiring urgent and comprehensive investigation.

He suggested that the Lesotho Mounted Police Service (LMPS) and civilian authorities lead the probe, rather than the military, to avoid potential cover-ups.

Mofomobe also alleged that funds meant for the programme were diverted into personal MPESA accounts registered under names of individual soldiers other than the LDF’s account.

He called for a full forensic audit of theprogramme’s finances and establishment of an independent commission of inquiry to restore public confidence and protect vulnerable Basotho.

“Failure to act decisively will not only erode public trust in the LDF but also signal the state’s abdication of its duty to uphold the rule of law and protect human rights,” Mofomobe warned in the letter.
