EU supports extended access to justice

In a major step towards improving access to justice, the Judiciary of Lesotho and the Legal Aid Unit, with support from the European Union, havelaunched two key community services in Mokhotlong.

The recently inaugurated children’s court aims to provide a safe, child-friendly environment for handling cases involving minors. It is expected tohelp protect children’s rights and amplify their voices.

Designed to reduce the burden of long-distance travel for families, the court brings justice closer to home for vulnerable children and their caregivers.

Additionally, a new Legal Aid Unit office was officially opened in Mokhotlong. The facility will offer legal advice, representation, and awareness services to marginalised and underserved communities, ensuring more equitable access to justice.

The initiative reflects ongoing efforts to build a more inclusive justice system in Lesotho, particularly for children and vulnerable groups.
