The Ministry of Tourism, Sports, Arts and Culture has come up with a national digital environment roadmap aimed at harnessing technologies to drive growth and innovation in the country’s cultural and creative industry.
The roadmap is set to kickstart with a stakeholder engagement workshop planned for early next month.
In a statement, the ministry said the initiative seeks to find ways of strengthening the local creative economy, empowering young people, and safeguarding Lesotho’s cultural heritage.
It noted that the roadmap has been developed to enhance Lesotho’s creative sector, which encompasses rich talent and traditions, but faces challenges of limited policy support, fragmented coordination, and insufficient digital infrastructure.
The ministry further stated that the implementation is in line with the principles of the 2025 UNESCO Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions.
“This roadmap will be more than a policy framework, it will be a comprehensive tool for building an environment that unlocks jobs, opportunities and empowerment. By enhancing digital strategies and creating an enabling environment, Lesotho will expand creative entrepreneurship, improve access to markets, and ensure that our cultural identity thrives globally.
“The ministry calls upon artists, youth, cultural practitioners, policymakers and development partners to join this transformative journey. Together we will build a resilient, inclusive, and sustainable creative economy that reflects the spirit and talent of Basotho. The ministry reaffirms its commitment to transparency, collaboration and accountability, ensuring that community voices remain at the centre of this process,” the statement added.
