A woman from Ha-Leqetle has won an eviction case against her daughter at the Matala Local Court.
‘Mapalesa Mosetse had sought to evict her daughter, Selloane Mosetse (51) from her home, citing years of disrespect and emotional stress.
‘Mapalesa (age not given) testified in court that she had tolerated Selloane’s unacceptable behaviour for far too long, but the latest incident was the final straw.
She presented a voice message sent by Selloane, in which she insulted her and her older daughter.
‘Mapalesa said was visibly distressed as she recounted the hurtful words, including Selloane’s derogatory slander, calling her a “bitch”. She also allegedly made disparaging remarks about her older daughter’s reproductive health, alleging she was infertile due to a supposed history of abortions.
‘Mapalesa stated that she could no longer continue living with Selloane under such toxic conditions and was seeking eviction as a last resort to protect her peace and dignity.
Palesa Mosetse, ‘Mapalesa’s older daughter, testified in court that Selloane has consistently spoken negatively about their mother, particularly to her sons.
Palesa said Selloane allegedly told the children that she loved their father not their mother, and referred to ‘Mapalesa as a “disrespectful bitch” who takes orders from Palesa herself.
Furthermore, Palesa claimed that Selloane has threatened to bewitch both and ‘Mapalesa and her, showcasing a deeply troubled relationship.
Palesa stated that Selloane’s behaviour stems from bitterness and regret over choices she made in the past.
According to Palesa, Selloane had opportunities to pursue education and financial stability but chose not to, and now resents her for her success and ability to provide for the family’s needs without complaining.
Despite ‘Mapalesa and Palesa fully supporting Selloane’s two sons, given Selloane’s limited income, Palesa testified that Selloane continues to bully and unnecessarily pick fights with them, creating a hostile living environment.
On her part, Selloane admitted to insulting ‘Mapalesa and Palesa, stating that she will continue to do so because she believes they act superior to others.
She claimed her actions are a response to the duo’s perceived arrogance, asserting it is a fact that they think they are better than everyone else.
Selloane also stated that she contributes to her sons’ support from time to time, but did not elaborate further. She openly expressed her hatred towards her mother and sister, labeling them as selfish, and showed no signs of remorse for her behaviour or the emotional distress it has caused.
In her ruling, Court President Manthuntsi Ntšala ordered Palesa not to visit her mother’s house, as she had requested.
If Palesa still has belongings there, she is to collect them within 30 days, Ntšala said. She further suggested that both Palesa and ‘Mapalesa seek counselling, noting that they appear to be emotionally damaged.
