Vodacom Lesotho empowers women

By Seleoe Nonyane

Vodacom Lesotho (VCL) has held a Women’s Network Forum to empower its female employees and other women from various spheres of life.

The platform ‘by women for women’ was aimed at championing the gender equality agenda in Lesotho.

VCL business executive head, Lisemelo Ramafikeng, on Monday said the aim of the event was to grow women in their personal and professional lives to ensure that they are impactful in their communities.

Ramafikeng noted that they had strategically picked women who are currently leading in male-dominated areas.

She added that they expected women leaders to narrate their success stories and how they manage to stay at the top. This would help to inspire other women to identify career paths that might work out for them.

“I am hoping that through discussions, the participants will find one person from this panel that they resonate with, whose career path more or less talks to them.

“I’m one person who prides herself with that. I will find someone to support me where I lack,” Ramafikeng said.

She revealed that she has been able to achieve what she set out to do by intentionally surrounding herself with mentors, coaches and sponsors as she knows that there are areas that she lacks.

Among the panelists were Delegazi Mokebe – the first female CEO of First National Bank (FNB) in Lesotho, and Palesa Mphunyetsane, the managing director of Vodacom Lesotho Financial Services.

Major General ‘Matumelo Ramoqopho – the first female to be promoted to the rank of major general in the Lesotho Defence Force also attended the event, so did Mamello Phumane, the first Mosotho to head insurance company Metropolitan Lesotho.
