Mobile network company, Econet Telecom Lesotho has unveiled a collaboration between Sasai Money Transfer and new features, the EcoCash App and Society App, allowing significantly easier transfers between users.
Sasai Econet Financial Services is an Econet integrated social payments platform that allows users to pay via EcoCash. With the EcoCash wallet feature, users can buy airtime, send money, and pay merchant and bills.
The platform continues to shape the landscape of financial services, this time by releasing a collaboration that allows EcoCash users to receive money instantaneously from a wide range of countries.
The executive head of Sasai Money Transfer, Lee Anne Lancester, looked back on their motivation behind this collaboration and on how the product works.
“When having conversations with the diaspora, we have realised that a lot of Basotho in different countries experience challenges when it comes to sending money back home.
“Sasai wishes to make money transfers easy and allow Basotho to make transactions with ease,” Lancester said.
She explained that for now the services are still inbound, meaning Basotho abroad may send money to users in the country. However, outbound services are still in the works and Basotho will soon be able to transfer money internationally as well.
Speaking at the same occasion, the general manager of Sasai Econet Financial Services, ‘Matikoe Letsie, said the mobile payment application – Ecocash App – allows users to send money, buy airtime, make a variety of payments, and manage their accounts all from the palm of their hands.
“The app aims to allow Lesotho residents access to convenience and autonomy over their finances,” Letsie said.
The event also saw a live demonstration of the app in order to prove it is easy and more effective to use; it eliminates chances of error and allows for a wider range of transactions to be done from the comfort of users’ homes.
The Society App, on the other hand, has been introduced exclusively for people participating in societies and stokvels. This allows EcoCash contributions to be done in a safer, more convenient, and effective way.
According to Letsie, Econet believes that financial services should be accessible, efficient and transparent and hope to bring forth a future filled with financial empowerment and innovation.
“The launch of these three projects represent the company’s unwavering commitment to enhancing the nation’s financial experiences,” she added.
