Assistive devices for the blind

By Seleoe Nonyane

The Lesotho National Federation of Organisations of the Disabled (LNFOD) has delivered inclusive education assistive technology devices and converted textbooks to the Resource Centre for the Blind.

In partnership with UNICEF and the ministry of education and training, LNFOD on Friday handed over 10 Braille One Safari – a revolutionary tool that promotes equality and diversity.

The device enables learners to have more access to reading material as it has the ability to write, read and edit, which allows for an inclusive learning environment.

LNFOD also bought four Victor Reader Streams, devices that assist visually impaired learners to read books, record voice and media.

In addition, the centre received 10 lifeskills books converted into Braille for the visually impaired learners who previously had no access to the books because they were written in text.
