Sothokids Culture Agency has opened a beauty salon situated right in the heart of Maseru.
Sothokids Hair and Beauty Salon rents out space to hair dressers and barbers. It offers a variety of beauty services which include cutting hair, hairdressing, nail, and make-up services.
The agency is a platform that allows models and artists to showcase their talents while helping them thrive. The brand also aims to promote Basotho culture.
The manager of Sothokids Hair and Beauty Salon, Precious Motia, told this publication this week that the salon has been operating since last month with six tenants but can take up to eight.
Motia said the salon was opened to help reduce the unemployment rate among the youth, in addition to aligning with Sothokids Culture Agency’s mandate.
“Life can be hard after high school or tertiary therefore, as a salon we intend to meet the youth halfway so that they do not get lured into drug and alcohol abuse.
“Three of our six tenants are models from Sothokids Culture Agency who make a living out of their skills and we are proud of that as charity begins at home.
“However, the space is available to any youth who is skilled,” she noted.
Motia mentioned that apart from addressing the unemployment scourge the salon was established after realising the Sothokids models have skills but do not have a platform to showcase them.
So, the idea of a salon was a great opportunity to showcase their skills, adding that this also applies to others who are not part of the Sothokids family.
Motia is confident that the salon delivers quality services and she attributes this to the positive feedback they have received from their clients since its opening a month ago.
To market the salon, the manager said they capture their work regularly and post it on social media.
They have also selected a group of Sothokids models to market it on their behalf to assist with generating traffic for the salon.
Motia said they are preparing to open a fully furnished printing shop.
She stated that they do not know what the future holds for them, but they might open another branch outside Maseru.
The salon offers walk-ins, but for hairstyles that take longer they take appointments.
