Looking for a faster and convenient delivery service? Thaka Bicycle Delivery is the answer; they deliver parcels, medications and food right at your door step.
Thaka-hali-fele Holding Company started operations last year with a cab service and then birthed Thaka Bicycle Delivery in June, two months later.
In an interview with theReporter, the founder of Thaka Bicycle Delivery, Liteboho Makhoali, said the business collects and delivers parcels for individuals, orders from restaurants, medication from pharmacies as well as other office related parcels.
Currently, Thaka Bicycle Delivery is available around Maseru town and outside, but clients in far-away districts can use social media platforms to request whatever they want and they will get them through public transportation.
A professional cyclist, Makhoali revealed that he found a need to make money out of what he was already doing, hence he thought of the idea of a bicycle courier service.
Apart from that, he noticed that Maseru is a small but busy town, yet getting around is rather slow due to traffic congestion.
“We were actually looking for a faster way of getting things done. Another thing that challenged us to think of this business idea was the Covid-19 pandemic which enforced movement restriction.
“Besides that, the aim is to combat air pollution from harmful by-products emitted from vehicles, such as carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons and nitrogen. So, in our own way, we contribute to cleaner air,” he said.
Makhoali noted that the challenges he encounters in the business include lack of understanding by the people who are in remote areas, of how the business works, hence the need for education in order for them to understand it.
He said they now have reliable clients in Mafeteng, Mohale’s Hoek, Thaba-Tseka who are able to cut transport costs they would otherwise incur travelling to Maseru to purchase goods.
“The clients normally send pictures of whatever they want to buy and we give the purchases to the taxis to deliver to the clients.”
However, despite the challenges, Makhoali said the business is doing well as it now employs 11 people who do bicycle delivery.
