Revenue Services Lesotho (RSL) in partnership Sasai Econet Financial Services (SEFS), a subsidiary of Econet Telecom Lesotho (ETL) EcoCash, on Tuesday this week launched an e-payment solution.
The system is designed to simplify the tax payment process, making it more accessible and user-friendly for clients.
In her remarks, the commissioner general of RSL, ‘Mathabo Mokoko, said the event marked a significant milestone in their ongoing journey towards digitisation and enhanced service delivery for clients.
“Our collaboration with ETL to integrate Ecocash into our E-payment system is a testament to our commitment to innovation and convenience. By leveraging mobile technology, we are not only keeping pace with global trends but we’re also ensuring that our services are more inclusive, reaching even those in the most remote areas of our country.
“This launch comes on the heels of our successful integration with Vodacom Mpesa, which has already transformed how many of our clients interact with RSL. The positive feedback and increased uptake of Mpesa have been encouraging, and we anticipate similar success with Ecocash,” Mokoko said.
Highlighting the advances RSL has made with their E-tax platform, Mokoko gave an assurance that clients can now file their taxes online, access various tax services, and obtain necessary certificates without the need to visit their offices.
As a result, this transition to online platforms represents a significant step forward in their mission to provide efficient, transparent, and client-centric services.
“The journey towards a fully digitised tax administration has not been without its challenges. However, the dedication and hard work of our team, coupled with the support of our partners like Econet, have made it possible to achieve these milestones. We remain committed to overcoming any obstacles and continuously improving our systems to better serve you.

She further lauded the teams at RSL and ETL for their tireless efforts and unwavering dedication in developing the e-payment solution.

At the same occasion, SEFS acting general manager, Lehlohonolo Matee, extended his gratitude to RSL for the efforts they put towards the success of the initiative.
Matee said SEFS’ mission is for digital migration leaving no Mosotho behind. As a result, they want to ensure that tax payers are able to receive payment services that will be efficient and at their convenience wherever they are.
“Our aim is also to ensure financial inclusion empowered by innovation, not only digital innovation. Here at Econet, our dream is to see every Mosotho having means of using money even if they don’t have it in cash. That is why we always make ways of payment easier hence our partnering with RSL to assist clients to pay their different taxes using EcoCash-Sepache-Fono,” Matee explained.
