Alliance, MCC join forces

In a significant initiative aimed at enhancing the cleanliness of Maseru, Alliance Insurance and the Maseru City Council (MCC) yesterday signed a five-year partnership agreement.

Speaking at the event, MCC Town Clerk Moea Makhake emphasized the importance of collaboration, stating that this partnership extends beyond Alliance to include street vendors, fostering a shared vision for a cleaner town.

The MCC introduced the Lefielo programme, which requires street vendors to participate in cleaning efforts before opening their shops.

“MCC does not aim to displace street vendors but rather to work with them. We urge vendors to liaise with their committee regarding permissible locations for their businesses, especially near large shops or areas where water drainage is a concern.”

On behalf of Alliance Insurance, Lehana Setsabi highlighted the company’s commitment to the partnership.

The contract includes providing rubbish bins, two refuse trucks valued at M1.7 million each, renovating public toilets, improving taxi ranks, maintaining parks, and adding Wi-Fi access in these areas.

“Alliance expects MCC to ensure proper waste management, secure drivers for the rubbish trucks, and collaborate with the street vendors’ committee to designate suitable business locations, to ensure a cleaner, more organised Maseru for all,” Setsabi noted.
