Dot Chef Mel hosts Street Food Cinema

Be there or be told, these Easter holidays are going to be different, with the hosting of the first Street Food Cinema, an event that features cool outdoor movie series, delicious food, good music and interactive games.

Organised by Tumelo Tšiame, popularly known as ‘Dot Chef Mel’, the event promises fireworks on Saturday April, 19 this year at Victoria Pool Side Maseru.

In an interview with theReporter this week, Dot Chef Mel said the aim of the event is to re-unite families and friends who have not seen each other for quite a long time.

The rationale behind holding it on the Easter weekend is that in the past people used to watch Jesus Christ films more while relaxing and enjoying good food with their families.

“As result of that, I have decided to organise this event to give a platform to people who sell food hence the name Street Food Cinema.

“This is whereby people will be enjoying their meals during the day, networking, doing small picnics, relaxing, playing different games and other activities to be performed. In the evening there will be various movie series to be watched along with entertainment from DJs such as DJ Pablo, RMS, among others, who will entertain revellers,” Tšiame said.

He noted that the event will start at 11 am right until the next morning since the aim is to entertain Basotho nation.

“The idea came the time when I wanted to host an event called ‘The food lover event’. I then thought how about bringing together all Basotho along with one activity that they can enjoy during the Easter holiday, whereby they can watch interesting movies to refresh their minds?

“Therefore, this is the first event of its kind to be held, and we hope to make it an annual event. I would like to see this event massive and more successful than expected while also attracting more people,” he expressed.

Dot Chef Mel is confident that people are looking forward to this event, as it has generated a lot of interest.

“I am really surprised, and excited at the same time to see the amazing support from Basotho at the very first time of hosting this event,” he stated.

He, however, indicated that the most challenging part with organising this event is to find sponsors as he is new in the events space and is currently a junior chef with innovative ideas to fuse outdoor cinema into the culinary space.

Tšiame envisions seeing this event in other countries as a host, such as in nearby South Africa. Apart from that, he hopes to see as many food stalls as possible with a wide variety of food and beverages (cocktails and beers) Tickets will be soon on sale costing only M150, with a free hotdog to be served at the gate. People should note that no ticket will be sold at the venue.
