Artists to showcase Lesotho culture in the UK

Two talented local artists, Halifele Khoeli (known professionally as Mavele) and Chakane Ramahamane, aka TASH LS, are preparing to take their unique blend of Amapiano DJing and traditional Sesotho dance to the United Kingdom.

The opportunity, sponsored by UK C Select Entertainment, marks a major milestone not only for the duo’s careers, but also for Lesotho’s growing music and cultural scene.

The pair will depart for the UK on July 2 and return on July 22, 2025. Their performances will be featured at UK C Select’s annual cultural festival, an event that celebrates artistic diversity from around the world.

Mavele and TASH LS plan to perform energetic Amapiano sets while wearing traditional Sesotho attire, offering audiences an unforgettable fusion of modern music and cultural heritage.

In an interview with theReporter, Mavele expressed pride in the opportunity.

“This means a lot to my career. It shows that it’s time for us as Lesotho artists to be authentic and embrace where we come from. The combination of DJing and cultural heritage will set us apart,” he said.

TASH LS shared his excitement, noting that while the duo has performed abroad before, this tour represents a pivotal moment in his journey as an artist.

“I’m really looking forward to the experiences and growth this tour will bring,” he noted.

The duo caught the attention of UK C Select Entertainment through their growing presence on Instagram, which led to the invitation to perform at the festival. The sponsorship not only covers their travel and accommodation expenses, but also reflects rising international interest in Lesotho’s rich cultural heritage.

By choosing Amapiano – a genre with global popularity – as their musical vehicle, Mavele and TASH LS aim to reach a wide and diverse audience while staying true to their roots. Their broader ambition includes touring across Africa and Europe, continuing to elevate Lesotho’s culture on the world stage.

Their message to the youth of Lesotho is clear and powerful. “Continue doing what you love, with what you know, and what you have,” said Mavele. “Don’t try to imitate others. Create something that makes you unique.”

Beyond personal success, the artists hope their journey will inspire a greater appreciation for Lesotho’s cultural richness and help boost tourism.

By sharing the nation’s beauty and traditions through music and dance, they aim to put Lesotho on the map as a vibrant cultural destination.
