NUL student creates learning app

A 20-year old National University of Lesotho student Tebello Matṧasa has created an educational classroom app called Thusanang Educational Network, which he hopes will help secondary and high school students to catch up on their school work during this time of lockdown.

Speaking to theReporter, Matṧasa said his passion for technology led him to realise that in Lesotho there are not so many educational apps which enable students interact with each other and revise from the comfort of their homes.

“I wanted to create an app for students because I know just how much they are into social media; so how about using their social media time to do their school work. The app can be downloaded, and the user has to register with it and follow the instructions.

“There are different subjects that can be found on the app, such as sciences, Sesotho and other subjects. I upload previous years’ question papers that students can use to revise and learn from,” he said.

He indicated that the app also has content for primary students but it is not much because, he argues, primary students are mostly too young to have access to social media. He said the app so far has over a 1 000 subscribers, which makes him happy because he realises that his hard work is paying off.

Matṧasa also disclosed that he is currently working with a local science organisation to ensure that, going forward, the app has experts that the students can interact with.
