Lesotho now doing own COVID-19 testing

By Neo Kolane

Lesotho Covid-19 testing and verification is now in full swing after the National Reference Laboratory finally started conducting tests on June 5.

Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, Lesotho did not have equipment to do its own tests and relied on South Africa’s National Institute for Communicable Disease (NCID).

Results of the local government laboratory situated at Lepereng in Maseru come out after six to seven days, but are still taken to South Africa for cross checking.

The director of the National Laboratory services, Tsietso Motśoane, announced on Wednesday that the country started releasing its own results on June 11.

Motśoane also revealed that 1700 tests have been conducted since June 11
