Miners receive food parcels

Vaal Reef Mine workers residing in Lesotho received food parcels today from the Lesotho Chamber of Mines in collaboration with the ministry of labour and employment.

This after miners came home in April this year when the mines closed doors. The miners have been home for six months without pay.

The chairperson of the Lesotho Chambers of Mines, Mohale Ralikariki, says they realised the ordeal that the miners could be going through without salaries, hence the decision to lend a helping hand.

The miners’ representative, Tṧita Phala, said they are grateful to see that they are still remembered. He acknowledged the support that has been extended to them by fellow Basotho since the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic condemned them to stay at home.

“We have extensive experience in mining, and we hope our local mines will see it and employ some of us in the event that that we lose our jobs for good,” Phala said.
