IOM trains district managers

The International Organisation for Migration (IOM) today trained ministry of social development district managers on how to tackle challenges in their respective districts, regarding vulnerable people who come back home from South Africa after losing their jobs.

IMO is an intergovernmental organization that provides services and advice concerning migration to governments and migrants, including internally displaced persons, refugees, and migrant workers. It became a related organization of the United Nations in September 2016.

The training was intended to later find solutions that managers can use to solve the challenges they face.

IOM head of office Eriko Nishimura says the aim of the training was to teach or guide the district managers how to help and handle Basotho who returning from South Africa.

“As we know there are thousands of Basotho that came back from South Africa who were working as miners, constructors and domestic workers and now they have lost their jobs.  So there is much that needs to be done to help them so that they can still support their families,’ she said.

Ministry of social development district manager in Thaba Tseka ‘Mathabo Pama said they face catalogue of challenges, especially those that are a result of the Covid19 pandemic.
