Maseru Bridge lifeless on day 1

Maseru Bridge was not as much of a buzzing hive of activity today, which marked the first day of relaxation of cross border movement.

theReporter paid a brief to the border gate around 11:30am hoping to see scores of people queuing up to cross into South Africa given the clamor and impatience prior to the reopening of the borders.

Taxi drivers on the South African side also looked dejected and disappointed as they too were looking forward to cashing in from travelers.

A taxi driver operating the Maseru to Johannesburg route, Khoza France, expressed disdain at South African immigration officers who he said were busy searching the taxis for passengers who may have crossed illegally.

Only seven taxis could be seen at the taxi rank. However, it was business as usual for trucks moving between the two countries.
