Lesotho, RSA ease border requirements

The minister of home affairs Motlalentoa Letsosa had a virtual meeting with his South African counterpart Aaron Motswaledi yesterday where they discussed the easing of immigration requirements between the two countries in respect with the COVID-19 regulations.

Among the issues that were being discussed is the implementation of COVID-19 rapid testing which is expected to get underway anytime from October 21. The testing charges are expected to be slashed to M150 and M200, after the Lesotho government heeded Basotho’s outcry of the M850 and M1300 PCR charges. The test certificate is expected to be valid for 14 days and the tests will be done at the borders.

The second issue is the renewal of the Lesotho Exemption Permit (LEP), formerly known as the Lesotho Special Permit (LSP). Requests for renewals are still open until January 31 2021.
