Good news for street vendors

By Kefiloe Kajane

Street vendors finally received money from ministry of trade and industry on Tuesday, as part of the Covid-19 relief from the first lockdown in 2020.

This was confirmed by Khathang Tema Baitṧokoli Association spokesperson Tṧolo Lebitsa in an interview with theRepoter.

Lebitsa indicated that the money – M500 – is the Covid-19 relief that the vendors were promised to receive last year.

He said the vendors who received the money are those who had registered for the relief through the association. He could not immediately confirm the number of vendors who have so far received the money mobile company Vodacom’s money transfer platform, Mpesa.

This happens amid a court case filed by the vendors against the government of Lesotho, demanding to be allowed to work during the current 14-day nationwide lockdown which ends on Wednesday next week.
