NACOSEC explains Covid-19 recoveries

By Kefiloe Kajane

The National Covid-19 Secretariat (Nacosec) says the occupancy rate in hospitals has declined in the month of February compared to end of December 2020 to January 2021.

Nacosec chief of staff Thabo Ntoi indicated that the infection rates seem to be decreasing too; although the recovery rate is still below 50 percent, it has improved compared to the past month.

“It seems Basotho are doing a good job taking care of themselves. To say things are improving the country will need to have a positivity rate of five percent in three consecutive week and Lesotho is only on seven percent and it has only been one week.

“We will keep monitoring for the next coming weeks to see where we are. We believe that the recovery rate could be higher since the ones we have are those that are being recorded. We believe people do not retest after they have recovered, so we can only report those that are recorded,” he said.

Meanwhile, Lesotho yesterday reported three new Covid-19 deaths, a decrease from last week’s six deaths.
