Rotary Club to hand over PPE to media

By Teboho Serutla

The Rotary Club of Maluti will hand over personal protective equipment to the Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA) Lesotho Chapter at MISA’s offices at Happy Villa in Maseru on Thursday.

This after MISA-Lesotho announced a partnership with Rotary Club of Maluti under the Covid-19 Media Relief initiative (MRF).

MISA Lesotho is coordinating this process under the Covid-19 MRF initiative that launched in December 2020.

Under the partnership, the Rotary Club of Maluti will donate personal protective equipment (PPE) to all media houses licensed with the Lesotho Communications Authority (LCA), as well as national newspapers and news agencies registered and operational under the laws of Lesotho.

The Covid-19 MRF is an initiative by MISA Lesotho aimed at extending a helping hand to respective local media houses and practitioners in the brunt of Corona virus pandemic. MISA Lesotho, as an advocacy and lobby non-governmental organization dedicated to promote independence, diversity and pluralism of the media sector in the country, has earlier engaged in a brief study on the effects of the advent of Covid-19 on the fraternity.

An overview of the exercise shows how much the media was not spared the brunt of chilling effects of the pandemic. Some media houses have closed business; others have cut staff benefits while many media practitioners have lost their jobs because of the
pandemic.
