MoH introduces cross-border document

By Neo Kolane

The ministry of health has announced the introduction of a mandatory Trusted Travel Certificate to be presented at all ports of entry, from August 1 2021.

This is a certificate that declares that a person does not have the COVID-19 virus.

Speaking at a press conference today, the minister of health, Semano Sekatle said the Trust Travel Certificate is issued for people travelling abroad and those who need their COVID-10 test results to be validated.

Sekatle revealed that the African Union and Africa Centre for Disease Control and Prevention are providing this Trusted Travel Certificate to simplify verification of public health documentation for travellers during exit and entry across borders.

He added that the document will strengthen the country’s ability to verify, authenticate and validate test results.

The certificates will be obtained at a laboratory, and issued when a person produces their ID or passport, as well as a PCR COVID-19 test result.

An email or SMS will then be sent together with a link that will have the results with a distinct code.
