Creativity smites Monyamane

By Kefiloe Kajane

The owner of Studio101 Khotso Monyamane from Morija says that his ambition for creativity and invention has led him to start his own company.

This week he told the tabloid that Studio101 is a creative company that designs bracelets, rings and earrings using leather and wood. It also designs brochures, photography and prototyping.

Monyamane who started his company in 2014 but only registered it in 2014 expressed that being passionate about creativity has always been dominating his mind. That propelled him to study graphic designs at the Limkokwing University of Creative Technology.

He described his business as a one stop shop as he is able to discover potential clients.

“The reception and support I have been getting is slowly developing. This is due to the fact that what has always been dominant in Lesotho over past three decades is art over design. This is because of how quick the world is getting in enhancing skills in design.

“Over the past five years working in the corporate space as an in-house designer for some local companies, I realised that clients or potential clients need to be more educated that design is not a product but a process that leads to finding a creatively innovative solution to their problems. This is why it was important for me to establish my own company,” he explained.

He further said that his main intention is to take a lead in design so as to generate employment to young Basotho nationals. He said he intended to teach youngsters to be skilled in professional design.

He explained that he wished to see many Basotho products being created more professionally so as to open up the international market.

He believed that in the next five years a commendable progress will be realised provided there are good mentorship programmes being undertaken in creative design.

“Being in this type of business has been very challenging because a business is like a child. It needs good monitoring and sacrifices to invest in resources. Design studios need technology so as to perform efficiently. It needs to give clients what they actually want,” he urged.

Studio101 can be found on Facebook and on mobile number 56048345.
