Econet partners with more local stores

By Poloko Mokhele

Econet Telecom Lesotho has partnered with more local shops in the use of Eco-Cash at point of sales (POS).

This has seen The Market, Sefalana Liquor, KFC, Stadium Fast Foods, Barcelos Pioneer, Galito’s Kingsway, Café What, and Office National becoming the latest stores to integrate the system.

The integration allows customers to pay for goods and food effortlessly from their Eco-Cash wallets into the shops’ merchant accounts. Earlier this year, Enrich Store became the first retail store to integrate its POS system with Eco-Cash.

Revealing the partnership on Tuesday this week, Econet’s acting General Manager: Econet Services, ‘Matikoe Letsie said: “Econet combined its systems with that of the shops to ensure a seamless and effortless shopping experience. No card is needed to swipe at the till and everything is done on the mobile POS device. There is a communication between a customer’s phone and retailer’s check-out device.”

Letsie indicated that this is just the tip of an iceberg since the mobile company’s intention is to partner with more shops in the same manner.

“Our purpose is to offer convenience, increase security by reducing cash handling and fraud at the shops. POS payments happen smoothly and seamlessly between customers’ mobile phones and the shop’s POS device, thanks to Econet’s innovation.

“Using Eco-Cash to pay at Food outlets like KFC is not new. However, the experience is different now as customers do not go through the ‘pay merchant’ menu on the mobile phone due to systems integration. All they need is to give cashiers their mobile numbers registered for Eco-Cash.”
