New car tracker on sale

By Neo Kolane

Twenty-four-year old lover of cars, Joel Moshoeshoe, who grew up around lots of vehicles, started a security and tracking system company called J&B in 2020 which started operations this year.

J&B is a security company that tracks vehicles and keeps surveillance at homes also provides office security and supplies CCTV.

The company imports its equipment from China and The Philippines while it is assembled in Lesotho.

J&B has two types of car trackers; birds eye view and guardian angel

The first tracker, birds eye view monitors the car, locates the vehicle. It also indicates how much petrol car is using. It costs only M2 000 which is a once of payment.

Guardian angel has a kill switch which switches off the car when it is stolen. It is M5 000 once off.

Moshoeshoe said he started selling cars and later realized a big gap in the tracking market for cars. That tormented him, and triggered him to invent the business.

One other thing that pushed him into starting a company was his love for cars. He thought of how he could help in alleviating car theft. He was also persuaded by vehicle owners who kept enquring from him as to where they could get the trackers.

The Khubetsoana-born and bred told theReporter that having a “tracker is like having a life cover because one never knows when the equipment would be needed.”

He added: “People who value their cars are the ones who will get their tracker and on the other hand people who do not value their car will not.”

He said since the dawn of the Covid-19 pandemic, there has been a considerable increase in theft of both local and imported vehicles. He is determined to lower the rate of car theft.

Moshoeshoe said a car can be tracked from any location in the world.

“J&B has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Lesotho Mounted Police Service and the company is aiming to sign another one with the South African Police Service.

“In case of a car theft, the police officers come in handy because the MoU is taken to the police station and the police officers are led to the location where the vehicle is,”Moshoeshoe cautioned.

Owner of J&B revealed that up to date there are 25 cars in Lesotho which use J&B tracker birds eye as it was the first to be installed.

Moshoeshoe, who works from the comfort of his own home, conducted a research to gauge the need for the devices.

He said customers do not pay any premiums for the service which he started by testing the equipment on his friends and family cars.

“We are hoping to move to cellphones in the near future,” Moshoeshoe concluded hopefully.
