The Lesotho Revenue Authority (LRA) has warned users of small borders around Lesotho to be aware that from December 15 2021 they will pay tax in South Africa and also when they pass through those borders.
This was disclosed today by the LRA deputy commissioner Frontier services, Tebello Makhechane, who told the media that the South African Revenue Services has indicated it will no longer refund Lesotho tax from the small borders of Lesotho.
“The small borders include, Sephapho’s Gate, Makhaleng, Monontša, Peka, Tele and Ramatšeliso which are currently closed. Sani Pass also falls in the list but it is still operating.
“People carrying goods worth M250 or more will pay 15 percent tax even if they have paid tax in SA. We therefore advice people to use other borders than the ones listed above to avoid this double taxation,” Makhechane said.
