IDM welcomes new management

The Institute of Development Management (IDM) welcomed a new regional director and a new country director yesterday.

The position of the regional director is rotational between the three countries hence the appointment of the new director.

The IDM was formed in 1974, by the three governments of Botswana, Eswatini and Lesotho. It also has regional services from those three countries leading rotationally as now the regional director comes from Swaziland.

IDM was formed to focus mainly to provide or bridge the gap between university, school and work place.

It was meant to provide skill to the in- service, the people who are already working but of late IDM have expanded its mandate to also focus on the pre-services, thus proving long term programs for students who are coming from high school level.   Country director and regional director’s term takes two years and it applies to all three campuses.

The new country director, Moeketsi Letele, who took office on Tuesday said that it was indeed an exciting opportunity offered to him.

 According to his educational background, he has over 17 years’ experience in education as he started teaching in secondary level to tertiary level.

Letele has a doctorate qualification including Business Education and Business Administration specifically human resource, operations management and finances.

 He served as a lecturer in many institutions that including the Limkokwing University of Creative Technology where he spent more than 10 years working as a lecturer.

He later joined the National University of Lesotho, Botho University and Institute of Extra Mural Studies (IEMS) respectively.

Additionally, he became the director of quality assurance and later served as a board member at the National Manpower Development Secretariat (NMDS).

 Speaking on his strategic plans that will lead IDM to green pastures he said: “Our aim is to improve the infrastructure of IDM such as to expand IDM short courses and long term programs.  

“We will implement more on the health related programmes such as emergency health which is has already been set to motion, we were compelled to introduce the course due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Furthermore, will expand long term programs including education, consultancy that will focus on helping institutions if they have problems in strategic plans. Mining programs will also be implemented mining. We will also identify skill gaps in Non-governmental organizations (NGO),” he said.
