Fast food restaurant Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) launched its 10th store today in Ha Thetsane where it has employed 34 staff members from the Thetsane area.
The construction of the restaurant was done by locals.
The director of KFC Lesotho Grant Wheatley was hopeful that this restaurant will be a catalyst for new developments in the Thetsane community.
On his part, the landlord Lefa Motlalane said the journey was not easy after the thought that it will be a small project but he encountered some problems from big contractors forcing them to opt for a smaller building.
He said that resulted to the store opening in June instead of April like it was anticipated.
Motlalane said another contribution was that the restaurant was built in a rainy season and at one point contractors stopped working.
He encouraged big contractors to consider doing small jobs.
The chief of Ha Thetsane, Katleho Montṧi, was very grateful that the workers are from Ha Thetsane.
Montṧi said that he is delighted that businesses are growing in his area. He commended the workers for being employed at the food outlet.
He decried the crime of theft and urged for safety in his jurisdiction.
Lesotho Mounted Police Service officer commanding Maseru Urban Senior Superintendent Rantoa Motsoetla said the restaurant will operate in a safe environment.
This is after he indicated that when a new shop opens, thieves take an advantage asking for jobs.
KFC chose Nedbank Lesotho as their partner to sponsor them in this initiative.
As of today, KFC Lesotho has employed between 340 and350 employees in its outlets.
