The World Trade Organization (WOT) has awarded the National University of Lesotho (NUL) the professorial research chair under the faculty of law.
Speaking at the official launch which was held at one of the hotels in Maseru on Wednesday this week, the Pro-Vice Chancellor of NUL, Professor Kananelo Mosito promised that as the university they will run it to support all the activities associated with the chair until the end.
“This is the third chair awarded to NUL. First it was Metropolitan, United Nations Development Programme and now WTO. We are highly appreciative for being nominated over more than 120 applicants, it is indeed a victory for the university,” he said.
Mosito further stated that being chosen as the chair is one of the most important things to occur for the school as the main idea is to promote research and other academic outreach activities in the university.
“Lastly, I wish to invite other faculties to emulate faculty of law to come up with many more chairs for the growth and the development of the university,” he concluded.
Apart from that, the minister of trade and industry, Thabiso Molapo congratulated NUL for the great achievement, observing that his ministry will also benefit from the chair. Again they are looking forward to enhance and collaborate in fighting the challenges facing the ministry.
“We wish to congratulate NUL and Basotho for such a great achievement. NUL truly represented us well and we are proud,” Molapo said.
The WTO chairs programme aims to support and promote trade-related academic activities by universities and research institutions in developing the least-developed countries. It ensures that trade flows smoothly and freely.
