Hape Matsepe opens a creative space for Basotho

By Neo Kolane

The managing director and founder of Max’s Corner Hape Matsepe has decided to expand the company and branch into open space called The Creative Corner.

Max’s Corner is a company that creates gifts and organises picnic events.

It is based in Teyateyaneng  in the Berea district.

The Creative Corner which was launched in June last month is a nice outdoor space at Max’s corner where events are held on Sundays.

It caters for a maximum of 15 people.

In an interview with theReporter this week Matsepe explained that The Creative Corner organises small and creative events where people come for fun during the day.

She revealed that it was inspired by her wanting to do something different that has not been done in Lesotho before, adding that it had to do with something that a lot of people do not have access to but that is affordable.

“Through travelling, I did pottery and painting in Port Shepstone in South Africa and figured that it would be fun to introduce the concept to Basotho. I work with my family who fill in the gap if ever I need extra hands. All our events are beginner classes because we let people do what they want without any restrictions.

“But we sometimes do get experts to lead just like the upcoming event of painting, who will guide people who want to do painting,” Matsepe said.

The Creative Corner has partnered with Khahliso Travel and Adventure because it offers a shuttle from Maseru to Teyateyaneng for those who do not want to deal with the hustle and transportation.

If all goes well, The Creative Corner is willing to test the space for a year and see how well people adjust to it and see whether it needs to expand or if the number of those who attend can be increased.

Matsepe said for the time being the event is not willing to have more people than it can handle.

“We want to give people a one on one attention to details so that everyone leaves satisfied to have the maximum fun out of their Sunday. We try to do something different every Sunday and there is no gender nor age limit,” she said.

For this coming event called Painted Bruch, a ticket is M250 which includes a package of brunch, mimosas, canvas, paint and brushes.

On the coming Sunday the space is having a Pottery Party while the last Sunday was a Jean event and Sip.

In October Max’s Corner is having a big festival called Life in Colour at Maseru Club.
