Police warn against hooliganism

There will be heavy police visibility on Lesotho’s roads from tomorrow to counter possible acts of criminality as the public transport operators begin their stay away.

Taxi and bus operators announced they are embarking on a week-long nationwide strike in protest at the mobile traffic court. They also threatened to deploy members of their association to ensure that all passenger carriers abide with the call.

Police have responded by assuring operators that will be going about their usual business that police will be on hand to protect them against any act of aggression.

In a statement issued today, police further warned operators that will down their tools not to interfere with or intimidate those that will be working.

Meanwhile, the ministry of transport has invited private vehicle owners to provide transportation to the public tomorrow after a nationwide stay away planned by public transport operators.

The ministry of transport says short-term permits for vehicles will be applied for at the department of traffic from today.
