Govt, ORASECOM to host project office

By Neo Kolane

The government and Orange-Senqu River Commission (ORASECOM) today signed an agreement to host the organisation’s Project Management Office (PMO) in Lesotho.

The office will coordinate the Commission’s project to harness water from the Makhaleng River to Mafeteng and Mohale’s Hoek districts.

ORASECOM is responsible for managing the resources of the Orange-Senqu River basin, a transboundary resource shared by Botswana, Namibia, South Africa and Lesotho.

In his remarks, the executive secretary of ORASECOM, Lenka Thamae, said the agreement with the government of Lesotho was an extension of his organisation’s efforts to develop water resources in the four countries.

“I’m grateful that the office is now officially regularised; this will create employment for some locals as we work hard to complete the project,” Thamae noted.

He added that Lesotho, Botswana and South Africa had contributed M28 million in addition to the M90 million grant that ORASECOM had mobilised.
