LEWA seeks comments on tariff hike application

‘Mantali Phakoana

The Lesotho Electricity and Water Authority (LEWA) has called on stakeholders and the general public to submit their comments and inputs on the proposed tariff adjustment application by the Water and Sewage Company (WASCO) for the 2023/24 financial year.

WASCO on June 19 this year submitted an application requesting approval for a revenue requirement of M298. 835 million comprising M251.425 million and M47.410 for water and sewage respectfully.

The company said these amounts would be generated by a tariff adjustment of 14.8045 percent and 4.7 percent on water volumetric and standing charge, respectfully, for domestic and non-domestic customers as well as an adjustment of 31.5 percent for sewerage.

In addition, WASCO requested to be allowed full 100 percent cost recovery on new water connections.

“Following Section 24 (6) of the LEA of Act 2002, stakeholders and the general public are invited to make and forward their written comments and inputs on the (WASCO) application for consideration before LEWA makes a final determination,” LEWA said in a statement.

Public hearing sessions started on July 18 and will run until July 27, while the deadline for submission of written comments is July 31.
