Petroleum Fund urge dealers to pay levies

By Neo Kolane

The Petroleum Fund has urged Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) dealers to pay the new levies introduced by the government in April 2022 to avoid penalties.

According to Legal Notice No. 64 of 2023, Fuel and Services Control Notice, gas dealers should pay M0.164/kg and M0.007/litre for lubricants and oil.

Petroleum Fund finance manager, Mohloko Lepamo said they met with dealers on Friday to conscientise them on the need to pay the stipulated levies.

Lepamo said the engagement came after realising that some dealers were not paying remitting the taxes to the government.

Petroleum Fund operations manager, Lebohang Makhoali explained that the levies are imposed on all LPG and lubricants imported into the country. Makhoali said the Fund was concerned by non-compliance and late payment of levies by dealers, warning they risk paying a 2.5 percent interest.
