The African Union Commission (AUC) has honoured Minister of Information, Communications, Science, Technology and Innovation, Nthati Moorosi, for her outstanding leadership in advancing Africa’s digital transformation agenda.
The recognition follows her three-year tenure as Chairperson of the African Union Specialised Technical Committee on Communication and Information and Communication Technologies (STC-CICT), which concluded during the committee’s Sixth Ordinary Session in Libreville, Gabon.
In her address, Moorosi called for greater investment in digital infrastructure, affordable connectivity, energy and digital skills, urging African countries to strengthen their technological independence and ensure inclusive digital development.
She also emphasised the need for responsible artificial intelligence governance and a stronger African voice in shaping global digital policies and standards, warning against technological progress that could deepen existing inequalities.
As Ghana takes over the STC-CICT chairmanship, Lesotho will remain on the committee’s Bureau as Rapporteur, maintaining its role in advancing Africa’s digital transformation priorities.
