US reduces tariffs on Lesotho

In a significant development, the White House has issued an executive order titled “Further Modifying the Reciprocal Tariff Rates,” revising tariffs for trade partners, including Lesotho.

The country had initially faced a steep 50 percent duty, one of the highest among affected nations. However, the new rate has been reduced to 15 percent set to take effect on August 7, 2025.

The move is expected to ease trade tensions and provide relief to Lesotho’s exporters.

The revised tariff structure is part of the US’s broader effort to recalibrate its trade relationships with various countries.

Lesotho joins other nations like Botswana, Madagascar, and Cambodia, which have also seen substantial reductions in tariffs.

The new rates aim to promote fair trade practices and address trade imbalances.
