Judiciary registers ‘first’ Covid-19 case

The office of the Registrar of the High Court and Court of Appeal has released a statement informing the general public and all court users that the Judiciary has registered a confirmed positive case of Covid-19.

According to the statement the employee is based in the Commercial Division of the High Court.

As a result, the office has decided to take preventative and mitigating measures that include the Judiciary temporarily ceasing all its services on the premises of the Commercial Court from July 20 to 26 2020.

“All staff at these premises shall undergo a compulsory fourteen 14-day self-quarantine. Such staff will be expected to follow the ministry of health and World Health Organisation protocols on self-quarantine for the duration of this period. The ministry of health authorities shall engage in contact tracing of members of staff of the Commercial Court on Monday the 20th July 2020, which shall include testing of members of staff.

“The designated services of the Commercial Court shall be offered at the main High Court (Palace of Justice) premises for the duration of this temporary closure. The Commercial Court shall partially open, with scaled-down services from Monday, July 27 2020 until the contact tracing is complete, with only selected skeleton staff available for duty. Members of staff of the Judiciary have been advised to remain vigilant and comply with the WHO Guidelines and Ministry of Health regulations for minimizing the spread of the COVID- 19,” the statement explained.

It concluded by ensuring court users and the nation of the court’s continued commitment to an excellent, professional and seamless service, despite this calamitous setback.
