LCCI donates PPEs to CHAL

By Teboho Serutla

Lesotho Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) together with the Solidarity fund and Botho University have today handed over a donation of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), worth M60 300.00 to the Christian Health Association of Lesotho (CHAL).

The PPE donation included: 150 disposable masks and 150 pairs of disposable gloves.

A member of the Solidarity Fund in the LCCI, Thuso Green, said a team was put together as part of Lesotho’s reaction to the COVID-19 pandemic.

This team was tasked with assisting in the fight against COVID-19, particularly looking at business.

“But it was impossible to only look at business without also addressing the health side issues,” said Green.

He said the LCCI met with World Health Organisation officials and other entities that understood COVID-19 issues to find out the best way that Lesotho could fight the novel coronavirus.

Green says the number of discussions they had, led to the decision of creating a Solidarity Fund.

The Executive Director of CHAL, Libete Selapane, and other representatives said they were grateful for the donation.

Selapane said the donation was a reassurance that the private sector still trusts CHAL. He assured the donors that
the PPE would be delivered to those it was intended for.

Deputy Minister of Health Nto Moakhi called for the proper use of PPE to reduce the risk of contracting COVID-19.

Moakhi warned against complacency saying that the coronavirus has gained momentum at an alarming rate.

He said because nurses were at the frontline of healthcare the health ministry appreciates the much-needed donation, which would benefit four nursing schools.
