Youth to march to parliament

By Neo Kolane

A grouping of concerned youths have resolved to march to parliament after the Prime Minister’s failure to respond to their grievances.

The march that will take place on August 20 is meant to deliver a petition to the leader of the house, urging him to revoke the members of parliament (Amendment of schedule) regulation of 2020.

One of the youths, Motsamai Mokotjo revealed that the above-mentioned regulations entitle legislators to M5, 000 tax free petrol allowance per month.

Mokotjo explained that on August 10, 2021 they delivered a letter to the prime minister, which was duly received requesting permission to organize a march to parliament on August 20, 2021 from 9:00am to 1:00pm.

“We afforded the prime minister until Friday, August 13, 2021, to respond to our request and indicated that if he did not reply we would take his silence as a consent.

“Yesterday, August 15, there was no response from the office of the prime minister thus processing with the protest.

“The march will start at Sefikeng sa Morena Moshoeshoe I to the new parliament building on Mpilo hill in Maseru,” Mokotjo said.
