Locally brewed brandy to warm up to

By Kefiloe Kajane

A Quthing district resident Pule Mohapi is the proud owner and founder of Mountain Spels Brandy that has been going strong since its birth in 2019.

The alcoholic beverage is brewed from grapes.

In an interview with theReporter this week Mohapi said he was going through a difficult moment in his life and wanted to start something for him to earn the living. At one moment, came the idea to make the blend.

“I was really excited to start but just like anything else in life, it was really challenging to start. Financially, it was really not easy but I knew what I wanted and I was going to make it no matter what.

“In this company we make brandy out of grapes. Most of our ingredients are sourced from outside the country which is quite tormenting especially when the borders close,” he said while sitting at his stall at Maseru Mall.

He is one of the small traders who are displaying their various products at an annual Expo.

Although the brandy is not produced in large quantities, those who got the taste of the blend have fallen in love with it, he said.

He was grateful to the Basotho who are buying the locally made products as it enhances their ability to invent more products.

He wishes that the company grows to compete with other locally and internationally made brands in the market.

He said being in business has not been easy. It was never part of his future plans but once he put one foot into business, he knew that it was something that he was meant to do.

“I would like to advise other people who want to do business to start now. They should not wait to accumulate much capital.

“If I focused my energy mostly on the capital and the fact that I did not have money, I would not be where I am today. I am now a happy man who has persevered,” Mohapi said.

He said his company is not yet on social media but can be found on the number +266 57 929 261.
