Phakisi opens self-care shop

By Neo Kolane

Having had a passion of self-care for over the years made YouTuber and master of ceremony Kananelo Phakisi conceptualize a skincare store Bathroom Chemist during the 2020 lockdown but only came to pass in 2021.

The inception of Bathroom Chemist, which is based in Maseru took place in April 2021 and focuses on skin care and body care products curated for an inspiring self-care routine.

In an interview with theReporter, the founder and creative director Phakisi explained that she wants the store to bring to Basotho renowned skincare and education.

“I used to do skincare routine prior to the COVID-19 pandemic and I became more interested. I later wanted to incorporate all my passions into a sustainable and inclusive self-care brand.

“I did a lot of research because there is no beauty e-commerce range in the country,” she explained.

Phakisi disclosed that at Bathroom Chemist “we are passionate about curating products that suit Basotho’s skincare needs and budgets.”

She further explained that the self-care store has taken great care to minimize costs while maintaining the highest quality possible.

“We are your average self-care brand; our collection has you in mind. We encourage self-loved kindness with a well determined skin care business.

“Currently, we stock South African and European brands made products with similar values. All these brands showcase some of that Bathroom Chemist magic.

“Our philosophy at Bathroom Chemist is to offer more than just products, but thoughtfully created little luxuries that can become a part of your daily routine,” she said

The 29-year old revealed self-care is universal and she has tried to make provisions for everyone although a lot of the National University of Lesotho students purchase her products.

“I do not produce, I aspire to, I am more of a curator but I am currently doing a short course to be an aesthetician.

“I work with brands Fundamentals and Silki which have an indoor aesthetician.  I engage with them and tell me which questions to ask and that being their guidance,” she said.

Phakisi said that she wants Bathroom Chemist to be the number one beauty retailer in Lesotho.

“My customer service is what stands out about the store. We educate people. There is a personal touch which has helped us  grow. Our social media pages are flooded with skincare education,” she added.
