LHDA confirms termination of contracts

By Neo Kolane

The Lesotho Highlands Development Authority (LHDA) has has confirmed issuing termination letters to HSPY- JV and HSP-JV, the contractors for Contract LHDA No 4017A – Construction of Polihali Western Access Road- West (PWAR-West) and Contract LHDA No 4026 – Rehabilitation of the Northern Access Road (NAR), respectively.

PWAR-West is part (21km out of 54) of the new access road from Ha Seshote to Polihali, which starts from Ha Seshote to Semenanyana River and NAR is the access road from Pitseng to Katse Dam.

A statement issued by LHDA on Friday, October 1 said that whilst it considers the turn of events to be unfortunate, it wishes to assure all stakeholders that it did not arrive at the decision lightly. This was done in the best interest of all parties concerned.

“Due to the legal and private nature of this matter (that is between LHDA and concerned contractors) we are not yet in the position to divulge reasons for the termination of the two contracts.

“LHDA has the mandate and legal obligation to deliver the LHWP Phase II within the stipulated timeline, quality and budget. These shall remain our primary objective,” the statement read.
