The Lesotho Electricity and Water Authority (LEWA) has withdrawn its approval of revised Water and Sewerage Company (WASCO) connection charges.
The charges had been scheduled to take effect from November 1, 2026.
According to a recent public notice by LEWA, the Authority has established that it erred in granting the approval.
“In processing the application, the Authority found that the approval process did not complete all the procedural and regulatory requirements that apply to determining charges for regulated water services,” the notice read.
It noted that to uphold the integrity of the regulatory process, LEWA has withdrawn the approval.
WASCO has been informed of this decision
Accordingly, LEWA indicated that the revised connection charges, including a base fee of M3,335.60 and M10.35 per additional metre of pipe, are not authorised and will not take effect on November 1, 2026.
The water connection charges currently approved by the Authority remain in force.
LEWA warned that customers should disregard any communication, including WASCO’s flyer describing the revised charges as approved by the Authority.
