RSL employees charged with bribery

‘Mantšali Phakoana

Two employees of Revenue Services Lesotho (RSL) recently appeared before the Maseru Magistrate’s Court facing charges of accepting a M2,400 bribe.

Thabo Matsinyane (52) of Ha Matala and Lebopa Monaheng (40) of Khubetsoana were released on M1000 bail each.

According to the state, the two on December 13, 2023 unlawfully and intentionally accepted the M2,400 bribe from one TakundaChiradza in lieu of conducting an inspection on a consignment in his possession.

“When accused one and two accepted the bribe, they knew that the bribe was given in lieu of their inaction to conduct an inspection on the consignment of Chiradza to ensure compliance with provisions of Customs and Excise Act and other revenue laws,” reads the charge sheet.

Matsinyane was holding the position of scanner driver analyst while Monaheng was anti-smuggling officer within the RSL.
