Nascent author Temoho Katleho Lekhotsa of Mafeteng has released his first book titled ‘What does Grace look like’.
The title of the book was inspired by a chess piece called ‘pawn’ which is the weakest piece in the game but can progress to become a knight, bishop, rook or queen.
This serves to emphasize that anyone can start from any point in life and go on to reach their crowning moment.
In an interview with this publication, Lekhotsa – who is also a pastor – revealed that his book goes out to all the people who are at the crossroads of life, who are trying to figure out whether or not their existence in life means anything in the world.
He said it is not a reference book, but an inspiration for people to remain positive in the face of adversity as there is always light at the end of the tunnel.
“The book is written for people who are at a point of giving up in life. I have added tools that show how one overcomes certain incidents in life.
“I am talking about love, like how one can overcome unreciprocated love and push through when they are not getting ahead in life.
“So, they will be able to look at grace and it will empower them to push through life and most importantly, the reader will find the book as an instrument of hope to push through in life,” Lekhotsa noted.
The author revealed that the book was written from a spiritual perspective as he used scriptures from the Bible as reference, making it Biblically based.
He explained that he used Biblical stories to illustrate what grace looked like for the characters in the stories.
He also looked at grace from his own perspective based on the things he has experienced in life.
“I looked at how I can identify grace from the issues that I have gone through in my own life. I was not trying to define what grace is but to look at the circumstances that people go through in life to identify what grace looks like in such situations.
“Some people go through difficult times in their lives so the book talks about how one can view those difficult times and identify grace within them, that will benefit them in the long run,” Lekhotsa said.
Relating how he got into writing, Lekhotsa mentioned that he has always been a bibliophile, adding there was a shelf full of books at his home when he was growing and that was how he was exposed to reading.
“The reading then developed into wanting to write something and share my own perspective on issues. My first attempt at writing was in 2009 but I could not see it through.
“Writing is not as easy as it looks. You may have an idea and write a few pages but then hit a brick wall at some point and fail to continue.
“It took me two years to work on this book because sometimes I was not satisfied with the content, or how I had written. I believe that I was able to finish it because of the focus of the book. It was a cornerstone of his faith.”
