United Nations secretary-general, António Guterres, is currently on a two-day official visit to Lesotho to discuss bilateral relations and strategic cooperation on development.
Guterres’ visit marks a significant diplomatic milestone, highlighting Lesotho’s commitment to enhancing its partnership with the UN on various developmental agendas.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Relations announced in a press statement that the discussions will cover vital topics such as national reforms, climate change, renewable energy transition, food security, and human rights protection.
Guterres will meet with King Letsie III, emphasizing the monarchy’s pivotal role in governance and national development.
The UN chief will also pay a courtesy call on Prime Minister Sam Matekane to discuss bilateral relations and strategic cooperation.
Guterres is further expected to address parliament on the national reforms programme and the UN’s ongoing support for Lesotho’s development initiatives.
“This visit signifies a commitment to collaborate and aims to galvanise support for pressing issues facing the nation, reinforcing the UN’s role in fostering sustainable development,” the statement noted.
