Lesotho hosts road fund meeting

By Neo Kolane

The minister of finance officially opened the first 2022 African Road Maintenance Funds Association (ARMFA) Southern Africa Focal Group meeting in Maseru on Wednesday, under the theme ‘Sustainability of Road Maintenance Funds’.

ARMFA is a non-profit making and non-political association that was founded in 2003 in Libreville, Gabon.

The aim of the association is to form a platform and a network for experience and information sharing on best road maintenance practices in Africa, to discuss and find opportunities on funding options as well as to promote and strengthen links between members of African Road Funds.

On behalf of the minister of finance, minister of defence and national security Halebonoe Setṧabi told the meeting that Road Fund’s role across the continent more especially in the Southern African region is more critical than ever during this time as Lesotho strives for quality roads.

Setṧabi said this happens in an era where financing such roads is very challenging.

“Nonetheless the association is expected to deliver,” Setṧabi said.
