Construction of road launched at Mokhethoang

By Seleoe Nonyane

Residents of Mokhethoaneng in the Berea district gathered in numbers to witness the sod turning for the construction of a new road in their village by the Lesotho Housing and Land Development Corporation (LHLDC) on Monday this week.

The 12km will pass through residential plots of the Maseru North Bound suburb (Manobo) project residential site developed by LHLDC.

The suburb will consist of commercial sites, civic and community facilities and residential sites for low, middle and high income earners.

The corporation will provide partial water reticulation and gravel roads infrastructure network for low and middle-income at differential order to fulfil reticulation for the high income.

Construction of the road is scheduled to start today and is expected to be completed within six months.

The journey on this initiative started in October 2017 when the corporation decided to meet with the council of Kanana to arrange a meeting with the villagers. The meeting was for LHLDC to present the Manobo project to the residents of Mokhethoaneng.

The Sales and Marketing Coordinator for LHLDC, Puseletso ‘Moleli, indicated that this projects’ journey was not an easy one as some villagers were not willing to surrender their land.

However, an agreement was reached and all affected parties were onboard.

“The villagers of Mokhethoaneng will enjoy great benefits from this project. When the project begins, new jobs will be prioritized for the residents of Mokhethoaneng,” Puseletso said.

The LHLDC is a self-financing parastatal mandated to provide shelter and housing to meet the requirements of people in Lesotho. The principal business of the corporation is to build houses for sale, provision of rental accommodation and serviced sites for residential and commercial purposes.

The corporation is also mandated, in consultation with other government ministries or departments, to devise uniform procedures for effective collaboration throughout Lesotho.
