The Minister of Home Affairs and Police, Voeswa Tsheka, has confirmed that police are investigating a sexual assault incident that allegedly occurred at State House recently involving an officer in the Office of the Prime Minister.
Tsheka said the matter is being treated with “utmost seriousness, diligence, urgency and sensitivity” in line with the Constitution and legal procedures.
She noted that details will not be disclosed to avoid compromising the investigation.
In a weekend statement, Tsheka stressed that the State House should be a place of safety, warning that no office or individual is above the law.
She appealed to the media and public to avoid speculation to protect the dignity of the complainant and investigation.
The Minister also reaffirmed government’s commitment to combating gender-based violence and urged survivors to report cases.
